This course teaches the basics of Cuneiform and advances to look at a number of key texts including fragments of the Epic of Gilgamesh, various letters, inscriptions and spells. Being able to decipher these key texts opens a window into a world of political and social order and unrest, wars and treaties; relationships with the gods and the day to day musings of the ancient Near East.

This course examines, in detail, Greek history from the end of the Persian invasions to the fall of Athens in 404 BC. The main themes are the rise and fall of the power of Athens and the role of the Persian Empire in Greek history in the 5th century. This course is delivered on a Tuesday 9am - 10:30am split into two five week terms: Term 1 - 30/09/25-28/10/25 inclusive and Term 2 - 11/11/25-09/12/25
